Topics of this event
External fixation has historically been considered as a simple technique. The introduction of circular fixation in the ’90s showed how complex an external technique fixation can be, and how many theoretical issues it requires to be taken into account.
Today, the attempt is directed toward a technique that can provide the many options available with circular external fixation, but combined with the relative ease of use of linear fixation. This objective can’t be achieved with a single fixator, but instead with a fixation system, which is easily adapted to the many clinical situations.
The aim of the course is to provide the participants with the principles of decision making when the application of an external fixator is required. The participants will acquire specific skills regarding:
– preoperative fracture evaluation and fracture assessment score (FAS)
– evaluation of the fixator frame most suited for specific fracture patterns
– knowledge about fracture fixation in mini patients (toy dogs and cats)
– principles and use of hybrid fixation for fracture stabilization
